Labradorite Pebbles

$4 to $8 size. Labradorite Pebbles are small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. Rubbing your fingers across the stone can promote calm if you are feeling stressed. Prices run from $2 to $6 each. Click on picture to see samples. Labradorite is truly a fascinatingly beautiful mineral. Its a mineral whose charm is not fully noticed and may be overlooked if not viewed from the proper position. Generally a dull, dark looking mineral with no special virtue until the colorful shiller is observed glowing on the surface. Labradorite can produce a colorful play of light across cleavage planes and in sliced sections called labradorescence. The usually intense colors range from the typical blues and violets through greens, yellows and oranges. Some rare specimens display all these colors simultaneously. The color display is from lamellar intergrowths inside the crystal. These intergrowths result from compatible chemistries at high temperatures becoming incompatible at lower temperatures and thus a separating and layering of these two phases. The resulting color effect is caused by a ray of light entering a layer and being refracted back and forth by deeper layers. This refracted ray is slowed by the extra travel through the layers and mixes with other rays to produce a light ray coming out that has a different wavelength than when it went in. The wavelength could correspond to the wavelength of a particular color, such as blue. The effect depends on the thickness and orientation of the layers.

Watermelon Tourmaline in matrix

The name tourmaline is believed to have derived from the Sinhalese word, "turmali", meaning "mixed". Many refer to tourmaline as the "muses' stone", for they believe that its imaginative colors contain inspirational powers which enable the mind of its beholder to bring forth illimitable vision and creativity. Dowager Empress Tzu Hsi was so fascinated by tourmaline's beauty and color that she had over one ton of these precious gem stones in her royal collection. The most classic tourmaline is called watermelon tourmaline. It blends from a beautiful green into a red or pink. This blending of Green and red/pink is advantageous when you are working with balancing your heart. Our pieces run from $130 to $357, call for availability.

Starbond Glue System

sold in a set of 3 pieces.

We have been asked by many customers what we use to glue stone items. Starbond is name of the product. It consists of a 2oz bottle of EM 2000 glue, a 8oz bottle of Accelerator and a 2oz bottle of Debonder for when you make mistakes. You spread some of the glue on one piece and spray some accelerator on the other. Hold the items together for approximately 10 to 15 seconds and you are done. We have found that it does not work well on wood items. If you decide that the two pieces you have glued don't work well together then use the Debonder to seperate them and try again. Each set comes with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). If you would like to see the MSDS before buying, please email and we will email a set for your review.
