Tips from an Exporter of Geodes and Agate

Before a rock wholesaler should start selling geodes and agate, it makes sense to learn as much about these rocks as possible.  Your customers will appreciate your knowledge, and the more they learn the more they will buy.  Below are some excerpts from a basic primer on rock collecting, written by an experienced exporter of agate, crystals and geodes.

Bulk Geodes

As a retailer purchasing from a wholesale rock dealer, you will want to choose an exporter of geodes who can sell you the most popular types of geodes to satisfy customer demand, while offering the most competitive pricing available.

The minerals you see in a common geode were actually transported in groundwater which penetrated the surface of the geode walls and formed crystals within their hollow interiors.  A sharp blow with a rock hammer is usually enough to crack open a geode and expose its crystalline interior to human eyes for the first time.  Collectors look at size, color, complexity and shape to determine how well a geode fits into their collection.

Bulk Agate

Also known as Si02, or silicone dioxide, agate is a beautiful mineral that is very popular among collectors.  Because there are so many varieties of agate, retailers should look for an exporter of agate that specializes in the types of minerals their customers will buy.

Most notable for its multicolored and banded patterns, agate is very beautiful and highly regarded among collectors.  Remember, raw agate is very dull and ugly, so it must first be polished before it can be judged for its unique qualities.  A trained agate craftsman will know the intricacies found in the raw agate stone and polish it in such a way as to draw out its natural beauty.

Some collectors choose agate because of its age-old mystical qualities, like protection from sickness, but most are just attracted to its color and versatility.  Bulk agate can be purchased from an agate wholesaler, or found in rings, bracelets, charms and pendants.  Its strong, acid-resistant exterior makes it easy to work with for jewelers and craftsmen.
